Grow in knowing HIM

(There is so much you don’t know yet about Him)

Growing in knowing Him will free you from the “stagnation of yesterday’s victories”
It will emancipate you from the debilitating effect of yesterday’s mistakes and defeats
It will make you stronger (Dan 11:32)
It will enable you to walk in the supernatural – i.e. do exploits, make the impossible possible for you
It will enable you to rise above your circumstance and environment
It will enable you to enjoy being with Him and walking with Him – builds intimacy (Enoch, Abraham)
How do I grow in knowing Him?

Take practical steps. What steps would/should you take to be physically healthy?
You would get rid of junk food – avoid eating them
You would eat the right type of food – proper diet
Eat the right portions
Exercise daily
The same applies spiritually.

Six habits important for growth
Feeding on God’s word – 1 Peter 2:2-3 “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Also 2 Timothy 2:15.
Daily quiet time – i.e. time of personal devotion Mark 1:35
Prayer – in the spirit and in understanding (1 Thess. 5:17, Jude 1:20, Eph 6:18)
Sharing Christ – i.e. share your faith
Fellowship – Acts 2:42 “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
Practice putting Christ first
Some things indispensible to growth in knowing Him
Studying the word of God – reveals the will of God…
Stress – challenges, difficulties. Growth never takes place in a vacuum. Most precious minerals are formed under great pressure. Romans 8:28, James 1:2-4 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” Also, 1 Pet 1:7
Faith – ever increasing faith that comes from learning (hearing) and practicing/living the word of God. Helps in developing the proper attitude toward stress. Your faith needs to grow – 2 Pet 1:5, 2 Thess. 1:3 (Act on God’s word, stretch it, put it to the test in believing for something according to Go’s will).
Stages of spiritual growth – 1 John 2:12-14

“Little children” – infants. Excited about their new relationship with Christ … “your sins are forgiven…” As they feed on the milk of God’s word (1 Pet 2:2), these will grow into becoming
Young adults – living daily by faith. Who confront and overcome the daily challenges of life through faith in the word. They overcome the enemy, become stronger and mature into
“Fathers” – who have “known Him who was from the beginning…” These have come to know and walk with the Lord over the years, and are reproducing lives for Christ.
