Reach out for More

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Today we’re are starting a new series on reaching out for more. Why is this important or necessary?

There is much more available to us in Christ than we realize.

Our text says that Jesus came that we might have (hold, possess, obtain) life and have it more abundantly. Contrary to how the text might have been interpreted by numerous teachers/preachers, it is not a reference to having a life of financial or material abundance, but having the life of God {Context: John 3:16, 5:26, 40, 6:33-35}. Christ has come to provide to us the life of God – the God kind of life (Zoe). The life is already available to us if we will reach out for it. During this series – as the Holy Spirit helps guides and teaches us – we will learn about the valuable resources and blessings we must reach for, and how to reach out for them.

“… have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

There is a lot more of God’s life available to us than we know or can even fathom.

Roman 11:33 says: “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”

No wonder the Apostle Paul’s prayer was;
“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe…” Ephesians 1:17-19

To experience more of His blessings, wisdom, power, wealth, etc that is available to you, you will have to reach out…

Another reason why this is important is because of the burden of personal responsibility that is attached to (or required) in getting anything from God

Acts 10:34-35 – “…God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”

Acts 2:21, Romans 10:13 – “…whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Matthew 7:7-8

Mark 5:25-29 – woman who had a flow of blood for 12 years (vs. 28 “For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”)

REACH OUT FOR MORE … you can have more of Him…

Reach out to know Him more i.e. reach out for more of His knowledge

SONG: I’m pressing on the upward way, new heights I’m gaining everyday…

Phil 3:10 “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” (in context: Phil 3:3-14)
